Police dog finds drugs in vehicle

A police sniffer dog found drugs hidden in a car after the driver lied to the police, saying there was nothing illegal in the vehicle.

Daniel Lowe was stopped in Kirkham after police received a tip-off he had drugs with him.

Lowe, a 21-year-old civil engineer, of Wesham Park Drive, Wesham, pleaded guilty to possessing 13.33 grams of cannabis.

He also admitted being in breach of a 16 month prison sentence suspended for two years which was imposed on February 1 this year for being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.

Lowe was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on December 5 by Blackpool magistrates.

Philip Hall, prosecuting, said police, acting on information they received, stopped Lowe’s car on Fleetwood Road, Kirkham at on about 9.20am on June 30.

When asked if he had anything he should not have in the car Lowe replied ‘no’.

A police sniffer dog was brought in and found cannabis hidden in the footwell area of the car.

Lowe then admitted there was also some cannabis in the boot.

Robert Smithies, defending, said the cannabis found in the car was for Lowe’s personal use.
