Police were called to a couple’s home after a row erupted when the male went to sleep on the wrong side of the bed.

Christopher Hopgood had been drinking heavily before he fell asleep.

When his wife decided to go to bed she found him on her side of the mattress.

Blackpool magistrates heard how she tried to get 30-year-old Hopgood of Osbourne Road, South Shore, to move.

But when he finally awoke he lost his temper and assaulted his wife taking a grip of her neck.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said his wife called police and her husband was arrested.

Hopgood was given a nine month supervision order after he admitted assault.

Steven Duffy, defending, said the couple had split up and his client had stopped drinking.
