Police arrest two after car stung in Fleetwood

Police arrested a man and a woman after a stolen car was tracked and stung in an overnight police operation in Fleetwood.

Police were first contacted after a Range Rover Evoke was reported stolen from a property in Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

Patrols say they later spotted the stolen vehicle on Blackpool Promenade at around 2.20am on Wednesday.

A pursuit began in which police say the car took to tram tracks and drove at excess speed in order to make off from police.

A spokesman for the force said: "The car immediately made off from police and went onto the tram tracks.

"The ARV unit who were in attendance backed off at that point due to the dangers and lost the car.

"The car was picked up a short time later on Fleetwood Road where we pursued the car for around 5-6 minutes.

"The car drove into a stinger which had been set up. It rolled over the stinger and three tyres were burst.

"A male and a female were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving."

The incident concluded by 3am and nobody was injured in the incident.
