Police appeal over series '¨of bin fires

Officers have issued an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with a number of fires.

Several fires have been started in wheelie bins in Fleetwood. So far none of the incidents have involved damage to buildings.

However several bins have been destroyed and officers are keen to stop the offences before anybody is hurt.

A spokesman said: “It is only fortunate that these small fires have not developed into much bigger fires causing a great deal of damage and injury.

Firefighters have also warned about a spate of bin fires in the port.

They said a number of incidents had been reported was around the lower end of Lord Street and Ash Street with domestic and commercial premises had been targeted.

A statement said: “On the last occasion, the bin had been moved against the rear door of a commercial property and, but for the intervention of fire crews, the business and the people whose livelihoods depended on it could have been in serious difficulty.”
