Motorists driving without insurance and parking inconsiderately have been targeted by police.

Officers from the county's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) reported pulling over several vehicles in Blackpool for various offences in the past 24 hours.

They include a green Vauxhall in Rigby Road, central Blackpool, which was seized yesterday afternoon after being driven without insurance or MOT, and a silver Ford Ka, which was towed away from the Prom yesterday for being uninsured.

This morning, a silver Volkswagen Polo was towed away after being left parked across a resort resident's driveway, blocking their vehicle in.

And a red and black Vauxhall Combi van was pulled over officers for having no MOT, a spokesman for the RPU said.

The same vehicle had previously been pulled over for having no valid insurance, he added, though it did this time. Its driver was given a fixed penalty notice.

This afternoon, police also pulled over a lime green Mazda officers said had no MOT, insurance, or tax. The car was seized and its owner reported.

The crackdown comes just days after firefighters warned that inconsiderate parking could cause delays to crews during emergencies.

Commuters on the M55 yesterday reported seeing a helicopter buzzing overhead as three police cars travelled down the motorway, one of which appeared to be slowing traffic.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said officers pulled over a VW Caddy to be searched. No more information was immediately available.
