A hospital patient pulled a metal and plastic oxygen pipe off the wall and launched himself at police, a court was told.

Brian Parke’s behaviour towards officers was so aggressive he had to be
pepper-spayed in a cubicle at Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s casualty unit.

Parke, a 45-year-old gardener, of Ormskirk Avenue, Withington, Manchester, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour
before magistrates.

He was sentenced to 12 weeks jail suspended for 12 months, ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work for the community, put on nine months supervision and ordered to pay £150 compensation to a police officer by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Parke had said it was all a bit of a blur and he was disgusted by his behaviour.
