Two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze at a property in Blackpool.

Fire crews were called to a home on Raikes Parade around 11.50pm yesterday to find smoke coming from a first floor flat.

Watch manager Mark Winder, of Blackpool Fire Station, said: “We were unable to establish if anyone was missing at first as the property had six different flats.

“Only one flat was affected by the fire. The fire was contained, more or less to one room, by six firefighters. Fortunately no-one was inside.

“The smoke was full to the ceiling and it was a decent size fire.

“There was some obstruction which lead us to contact police.”

Fire crews from Blackpool and South Shore were at the address for more than two hours.

Two people were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

A spokesman for Lancashire police added: “A 29-year-old man of no fixed address and a 31-year-old man from Blackpool were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and are currently in custody.”
