A man brandished a knife at police on the Promenade at Blackpool one afternoon, a magistrates’ court was told.

Mark Bird then headbutted an officer on the chin as he was being arrested by police.

Bird, 33, of The Promenade, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to assault on police and possessing an offensive weapon.

He was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court by Blackpool magistrates.

He will be sentenced on June 10.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the incident happened on April 29 at 4.30pm.

Bird was seen waving the kitchen knife around on the Prom. When questioned he told police he had drunk two pints and a large bottle of cider beforehand and that he was dependant on alcohol.
