A nurse believed her former boyfriend tipped off police when she was about to drive away from a pub, a court was told.

Loretta Long was seen to clip a kerb as she drove off, by police outside the Squirrel pub, Bispham.

Long, 49, of Laburnum Street, Layton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said police had received an anonymous call on October 12 at 2.15pm.

A breath test showed 53 microgrammes of alcohol in Long’s body – 35 is the limit.

Long said she had drunk just half a glass of wine with a meal and the reading related to drink from the night before.

Long was banned from the road for 12 months, fined £120 and told to pay £85 costs, a £150 court charge plus £20 victims’ surcharge by magistrates.
