Notorious Lancashire paedophile Alexander Macura to be sent back to prison

Alexander Macura - who was jailed for "exposure offences" in August 2019 - went missing after he failed to return to his registered home address in Fleetwood on August 21.

Police launched a public appeal to help find the 66-year-old, who had been wanted on recall to prison for breaching his licence conditions.

Officers located Macura in Lancaster yesterday morning (Thursday, August 27) and the convicted sex offender was arrested.

Why was Macura in prison?

In August 2018, Preston Crown Court sentenced him to 14 months in prison after he was found under a canopy in the yard of Kelbrook Primary School in Barnoldswick, east Lancashire, lying on a bale of straw which he had “laid out as a bed”.

It was heard that Macura had a "chequered history involving schools", and under the terms of a sexual harm prevention order he is banned from them. An indefinite order by Harrogate magistrates for exposure has been breached repeatedly.

In 2015, he had been jailed after he was caught by a cleaner trespassing in a Lancaster Grammar School claiming he just wanted to “sleep there”. He had just been released from jail for loitering near a field in Lancaster where boys were playing.

In May that year, a school in Welshpool, Wales, found him trespassing after he triggered an alarm, and he got a two-year community order.

He admitted breaching his previous sexual harm prevention order, notification requirements and community order. He was jailed for 14 months by Judge Andrew Jefferies QC.

Six months later in January 2019, Macura was back in the dock after he was seen by an off duty police officer near Fairfield playground in Lancaster with his trousers down and his boxer shorts on show, looking in the direction of children in the park.

Later that day, Macura was observed hanging around a pathway in the city when children were due to be coming out of school.

Preston Crown Court heard two days later, on January 30, Macura urinated against a wall outside the JD Sports store on Market Street in Lancaster centre. He then turned to face members of the public with his private parts still visible.

He was sent back to jail to serve the remainder of his previous sentence.
