A VIOLENT man who attacked a woman with a cider bottle has been jailed.
In a shocking attack outside Blackpool’s Duke of York pub Laurence Lowe used a cider bottle to hit his partner in the mouth, knocking her to the floor.
And Lowe, 28, struck his victim again in the face after a doorman outside the Dickson Road pub tried to intervene in the fight.
It was when Lowe, of Pleasant Street, Blackpool, hit the woman a third time that police were called.
In Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, prosecutor Steve Burns said Lowe had an “unbridled record of violence”.
Lowe had already admitted the assault at an earlier hearing and has now admitted being in breach of a suspended jail term – imposed for assaulting an ex-girlfriend.
Defending, Sue Mugford stressed the bottle used in the latest attack had been made of plastic, not glass.
She said: “The majority of his offending has been committed while under the influence of alcohol.
“He has now, however, reduced his alcohol intake.
“He accepts there has been a number of problems with previous partners.”
But unemployed Lowe was told by the judge he had no option but to jail him.
District Judge Jeff Brailsford, sitting at the magistrates’ court, said: “You have an appalling history of domestic violence matters and have been jailed before. You have done a domestic violence programme but have learned nothing from it.
“In this incident the witness warned you off but you persisted and no woman should be treated like this.
“The court cannot show you leniency because you showed no leniency to six successive partners.”
Lowe was jailed for 32 weeks.
