PEOPLE enjoying the delights of a seaside ornamental gardens were stunned by the sight which invaded their stroll in the sun – a naked skateboader.
When 27-year-old Derek Longstaff decided to reveal somewhat more than his skating skills females and children turned their heads away in shock.
Longstaff sang pop hit ‘I’m Sexy and I Know It’ as he wheeled his way around Ashton Gardens, St Annes.
He started dressed just in a pair of red boxer shorts, according to crown prosecutor Martine Connah.
She added: “He decided to skate on some grass, he slipped and his boxer shorts came off leaving him naked.
“There were women and young girls in the area at the time enjoying the sun.
“It was only when he rolled down a slope and fell off that it all ended.”
“One of the witnesses called the police and he was arrested.”
When he was interviewed by officers he said he had been drinking and sunbathing.
He said he had started off wanting to “moon” but his pants fell down.
Steven Duffy, defending, told the court: “This was an act of bravado and stupidity by a man who cannot skateboard correctly.
“He accepts this is not the sort of behaviour one does in sedate, civilised St Annes on Sea.
“He was wearing a pair of full boxer shorts and had a go on a skateboard when he decided to moon at his friends by baring his backside. It was only when he fell off he was exposed.”
“He was being a bit of a jester among his friends but no doubt he will become a local cause célèbre as the St Annes skateboard streaker.
“Perhaps someone of his age should not be skateboarding at all.”
Builder Longstaff ,who lives with his mother on Beauclerk Road, St Annes, was fined £80 and ordered to pay £100 costs after he appeared and admitted threatening or insulting behaviour.
