Detectives have launched a murder probe after a woman in her 50s was found dead in a bedroom of a house.

The woman was found in the house on Charles Crescent, Hoghton, near Preston at 8.35pm on Monday.

Police believe her death is linked to an earlier incident that took place at 10.55am near to Chapel Lane, Hoghton, where the body of a 58-year-old man was found on the track having been hit by a train. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post mortem examination will take place later today to establish the cause of the woman’s death.

The house remains sealed off while an investigation takes place.

Detective Superintendent Paul Withers from the Force Major Investigation Team said: “An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened. We are still at the very early stages of our enquiry but at this moment in time we do not believe we are looking for anyone else in connection with the enquiry.”
