Murder investigation starts as assault victim dies in hospital

A murder inquiry has been launched after man who suffered serious head injuries in a late night assault has died.

Jonathon James Plumwas taken to Royal Preston Hospital in the early hours of Sunday following the incident in Wood Street, St Annes

The 37-year-old, from St Annes, died on Monday evening.

A 20-year-old man from St Annes was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and has since been re-arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information.

Det Chief Insp Richard McCutcheon, from the Force Major Investigation Team said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Mr Plum’s family at this very sad and difficult time.

“We are continuing to appeal for information and our enquiries remain on-going to establish what happened.

“The incident happened in a busy area close to several bars and we are keen to hear from anyone who has any information that could assist with our investigation.

“If you were in the Wood Street area at the time and saw what happened I would urge you to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
