A man accused of murdering the father of a missing teenager has made a brief appearance in court.

Sean Conlon, 43, of no fixed address, has been charged over the death of Frank Chivers earlier this month.

At Preston Crown Court yesterday his case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing to take place on November 25.

A trial date has been set down for February 3, with the case estimated to last up to seven days.

Conlon was remanded in custody by Judge Pamela Badley.

Carly Turner, 28, of Camden Road, Layton has been charged with perverting the course of justice by knowingly providing a false statement to the police.

She had her case adjourned to the same date.

Mr Chivers was found collapsed with a head injury at his home on Walter Robinson Court, Layton and later died in hospital.

His daughter Paige, 15, disappeared six years ago.
