Mum prosecuted for THIRD time over boys' truancy

A mum has been rapped by a court for allowing her children to play truant from school

Jacqueline Izzette’s teenage boys were aged 16 and 14 and it was physically impossible for her to force them to attend lessons, a court was told.

Izzette, 33, of Furness Avenue, Grange Park, was found guilty of two offences of failing to ensure a child’s regular attendance at school after a trial in her absence.

She had previous convictions for allowing child truancy in September 2013 and April last year.

She was sentenced to do 40 hours unpaid work for the community and pay £120 costs with £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Lynda Bennett, prosecuting for Blackpool Council, said the case concerned Izzette’s sons, both pupils at Blackpool’s Education Diversity. One of the boy’s attendance rate was 20,9 per cent and the other’s 47.1 per cent.

Steven Townley, defending, said his client started to struggle to cope and get them to school as their physical size made it impossible for her to force them to go.

Izzette’s mother, who lived in Bulgaria, then become ill and she went to visit her while her sons stayed with another relative. They are now moving to Bulgaria.
