A mother assaulted a policewoman after scattering the ashes of her son who committed suicide 11 years ago.

Annette Speariett, a former chef, 47, of Westlands Court, Thornton, pleaded guilty to assault and being drunk and disorderly.

Andrea Fawcett, prosecuting, said police received a report Speariett was causing difficulties at a Blackpool hotel on March 28.

Speariett was found in a nearby store, but she was un-cooperative and pushed a policewoman hard in the chest.

Her lawyer said she had only got in trouble with the law since she was 41, after her husband was imprisoned.

She lost her home and children, lived on the streets for two years, acquired an alcohol problem and suffered from schizophrenia.

Speariett was sentenced to six months supervision and told to pay £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
