A mother confronted a man when she saw him riding her son’s stolen bicycle.

Steven Macaskill had words with the mother and then rode off. Macaskill, a 23-year-old landscape gardener, formerly of Fleetwood, now living in Bevan Avenue, Barking, Essex, pleaded guilty to theft of a BMX bike valued at £100.

He was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £25 with £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client had found the bike dumped in an alley and took it to ride.
