Detectives investigating the death of a baby in Blackpool have today charged her mum with murder.

Police were called by an ambulance crew around 7.30am on November 7, 2018, following reports a baby had been found unresponsive at an address on Frederick Street.

The eight-month-old baby girl, Francesca Haworth, was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but sadly later died.

A Home Office post mortem gave a cause of death as suffocation.

A man and woman, both aged 19 and from Blackpool, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder and released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution, Caitlin Jones, 21, of Willowbank Avenue, Blackpool, the mother of the baby, has today been charged with murder.

She was due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates’ this afternoon.

The man has been released with no further action.
