A driver who was said to have drunk two bottles of aftershave on the hard shoulder after crashing on a motorway has made his first appearance at court.

Craig Jones is alleged to have driven erratically on the M61, M60 and M55 motorways, flashing his lights on and off and weaving about the lanes, causing cars and lorries to swerve to avoid him.

Jones, 25, of Cartmell Road, Mereside, Blackpool, is charged with driving a Citroen Saxo dangerously on August 28 this year.

Prosecutor Chrissie Hunt’s application that the case should be heard at crown court was not opposed by defence lawyer Brett Chappell.

Jones was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on March 4 by Blackpool magistrates.
