A mother was found asleep at a home with her baby wedged between her and the end of the sofa.

Police had to force their way into the property and discovered there was no fridge at the address.

The only apparent baby milk was powdered milk scattered over surfaces and a baby bath contained wallpaper paste.

The 30-year-old mum, from Knott End, who can not be identified for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to child neglect.

She was bailed for pre-sentence reports with all options including custody to be considered by Blackpool magistrates.

The mother must not have any unsupervised contact with children under 16 unless approved by social services as a condition of her bail.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said the scene was discovered on the evening of July 17.

She said the mum rang police saying there had been a domestic incident with a man at her home.

Officers arrived and repeatedly knocked on the door, but could get no answer.

They forced their way in and found the mum asleep with her 10-month-old son, who was also asleep, wedged between her and the end of the sofa. The property was in a poor state and police found a small amount of cannabis there.

The mother’s defence lawyer told magistrates: “She accepts that by having a drink and falling asleep on the couch with her son, that amounts to neglect.

“Her son has been removed from her.”
