A man said he had no idea what he was doing when he broke into a car – as he was on a cocktail of strong painkillers.

Terry Casey had been attacked previously by a man with a knuckleduster and had had extensive surgery to reset a broken jaw.

Casey, 35, of Greenwood Avenue, Marton, pleaded guilty to theft from a car.

He was sentenced to 14 days in prison by Blackpool magistrates.

Andrea Fawcett, prosecuting, said Casey broke the window of a parked car in Blackpool on November 29 and stole £69 of goods including a satellite navigation system.

At 3.40am, police stopped Casey riding a bicycle. A carrier bag on the handlebars contained the stolen property

Trevor Colebourne said: “He said he just did not know what he was doing and it was the medication which caused him to commit the offence.”
