Manhunt for second prison escapee

Police are hunting a man who failed to return to Kirkham Prison.

Philip Deens, 38, was reported missing on Sunday, June 26.

He is understood to have absconded while released on a period of temporary licence.

Deens, from Merseyside, was sentenced to nine years and nine months imprisonment for wounding with intent in July 2012.

He is described as medium build, 5ft 10in tall with brown hair and hazel eyes. He speaks with a Liverpool accent and is described as having a scar and lump to the back of his head, as well as scars on his arms and “Kay” tattooed on his neck.

He is thought to have links to the Kirkdale, Aintree and Walton areas of Merseyside.

DS Angela Grey of Lancashire Police said: “If anyone has seen Philip Deens or knows where he is, I would urge them not to approach him but to contact police as soon as possible. Our enquiries to locate Deens are on-going so I would also urge him, if he sees this appeal, to hand himself at the earliest opportunity.”

Deens is the second man to abscond from the prison this month.

Last week an appeal was launched to trace Keith John Knight, 26, from Southport, who is believes to have walked out of the category C open prison.
