An investigation has been launched after a schoolgirl was raped in a Blackpool park.
Detectives said the 15-year-old girl had been walking home from a friend’s house along Claremont Road, near to the junction with Devonshire Road when she was approached by a man.
The pair began talking and they walked together through Claremont Park where the man forced her towards some goalposts and subjected her to the serious sexual assault.
The incident happened between 8.45pm and 11.30pm on Friday.
DCI Andy Gilbert, of Lancashire police said: “This was a terrifying incident for the young girl involved.
“She is now being supported by specially trained officers.
“An investigation is now underway and I would appeal to anybody who has any information about this incident to come forward.”
The man is described as white, between 5ft 6ins and 6ft tall, in his early 20s with dark hair and dark clothing. He did not speak with a local accent.
DCI Gilbert, added: “I would be keen to speak with anyone who may have seen a man in the area matching the description given by the girl.
“Even the smallest amount of information could prove to be crucial.”
“I would like to reassure people that we are treating this as an isolated incident and police patrols have been increased in the area.”
