A MAN found carrying a knife through the streets of St Annes as the town hosted the Open Golf has been jailed.

Daniel Moran was imprisoned for eight weeks by Blackpool magistrates.

Moran, 38, of St Thomas’s Road, admitted having an offensive weapon and resisting arrest.

Jane Yates, prosecuting, said police were alerted to Moran by the landlord of a flat who said he had self harmed with its three-inch long blade.

When they arrested him near his home, Moran struggled and one officer hit his head on a metal fence and required hospital treatment.

She said the crime had taken place when the streets were busy because of the golf.

Leisa Splaine, defending, said Moran – a single man – had suffered alcohol and drug issues.

On the day of the incident the landlord was showing him a new flat.

Moran found the knife and the desire to self harm overwhelmed him, the court was told.

The defence lawyer added: “He did not go out with the knife with the intent of hurting anyone.”
