A man who deliberately stole from a shop because he wanted to get arrested failed in his quest.

An officer took Stephen Brown’s details after he stole perfume and told him he would get a summons in the post. Brown, 36, of Cookson Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to shoplifting. He was bailed for pre-sentence reports and will be sentenced at a later date by Blackpool magistrates.

Philip Hall, prosecuting, said Brown stole two bottle of Lacoste Pink perfume valued at £84 from The Perfume Shop, Houndshill Shopping Centre on September 22.

Brown’s record was described as containing a great number of theft and dishonesty offences.

Trevor Colebourne, defending, said his client had been in Blackpool Victoria Hospital several days before the offence. Brown had discharged himself and immediately gone to Hounds Hill and stolen the perfume.
