A man accused of having a cannabis factory in a secret basement room accessible through a hatch under shelves has made his first appearance at court.

Shaun Cain, 55, of Bond Street, South Shore, is charged with producing 61 cannabis plants at an address in the resort’s Osborne Road on February 5 this year.

He is also accused of possessing amphetamine.

Martin Connah, prosecuting, asked for the case to be heard at crown court. Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client would not indicate pleas at this stage.

Cain was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on July 25 by Blackpool magistrates.
