A drunken man broke a shop door as he tried to get back in after arguing with a woman inside.

Daniel Carroll was also
described as “off his head” when he tried to take a man’s dog on another occasion.

Carroll, 26, of Don Street, St Annes, pleaded guilty to causing damage, being drunk and disorderly and failing to answer police bail.

He was sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £200 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.

Alison Quanbrough, prosecuting, said, on April 30, Carroll argued with a woman he was with at Thoroughgoods, St Albans Road, St Annes. The shopkeeper escorted him out, but Carroll returned, tried to get back in the shop and broke a pane of glass in the door.

On May 1, he tried to get
into a man’s home on Withnell Road, South Shore, saying he wanted his dog. Police arrived and he told an officer “When you leave I’ll smash the door in.”

Steven Townley, defending, said his client was an
alcoholic who was waiting to go into a detoxification unit and then rehabilitation.
