A man was seen on CCTV hiding five bottles of washing powder in his jacket and walking out of a shop without paying.

Robert Lindsay, 35, of Lytham Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to theft from Morrisons.

Mitch Sarangi, defending, said Lindsay had no benefits at the time and he stole the washing powder to sell to buy food.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £35 compensation with £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
