Police hunting a man believed to have been involved in a car crash found him hiding under a bed wearing only his underpants, a court was told.
Blackpool Magistrates heard cleaner Lukasz Moleda, 30, of Halifax Street, Blackpool, had been driving his Ford Mondeo along Whitegate Drive.
He panicked and feared the police here were like those in his homeland of Poland
He swerved and demolished a lamp post.
Police were called to the scene but Moleda had run off and gone home.
Police traced his address and found him hiding.
Moleda admitted failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it.
Hugh Pond, defending, said it had been raining and Moleda had swerved to avoid a dog which had run out into the road, but then left the scene in a panic.
“He panicked and feared the police here were like those in his homeland of Poland,” the lawyer told Blackpool magistrates.
Moleda was fined £340 and ordered to pay £119 costs by the court.
