A man was almost twice over the drink drive limit when he reversed a car into the path of a Mercedes travelling through Blackpool town centre.

Jordan Hampson had left a wedding reception after a row with the DJ and got into a car he thought he had been given to drive.

But the owner had not given permission and he was over the limit as well, the town’s magistrates heard.

Hampson, 25, of Waterloo Road, South Shore, admitted drink driving, the aggravated taking of a Fiat Punto without the owner’s consent and driving without insurance.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said Hampson was subject to a suspended jail term at the time.

Hampson was given a curfew until March 11.

He was banned from driving for 18 months, ordered to pay £345 compensation and told to do 200 hours unpaid work for the community.
