Wickenden, 58, of Granville Avenue, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to assault.

Wickenden said he had been drinking.

Martin Hillson, defending, said the couple had known each other for 40 years and been married for 23 years. Wickenden had no previous convictions.

Mr Hillson added: “He says at no point did he move towards her or strike at her with the knife.”

Wickenden was bailed for pre-sentence reports by Blackpool magistrates. He must not enter Blackpool or contact his wife.
