A man who grabbed his ex partner by the throat has been jailed for eight months.
Karl Wood had been drinking and taking drugs before the attack and had very little memory of what happened, Preston Crown court heard.
The 41-year-old of Airdrie Place, Bispham, had pleaded guilty to putting a person in fear of violence by harassment and also criminal damage.
Sue Carter, prosecuting, said Wood and the woman had had an on-off relationship.
Last November he contacted her by text and they eventually met up, spending the day together.
They ended up at her home and things began to go down hill.
The prosecution said he insulted her and grabbed her by the throat, putting his hands around as though strangling her.
He also poked her on the throat with his finger and punched her to the head.
The following morning he was verbally abusive, grabbed her phone and threw it. He also kicked a child safety gate off its hinges.
He also held a screwdriver to her throat. He claimed he had used the tool to mend the gate.
The victim went to the door and asked a member of the public to call the police.
Waheed Omran-Baber, defending, said: “He doesn’t recall some parts of the incident. He expresses a degree of remorse about what happened.
“He knows there has to be a custodial sentence. While on remand he has dealt with his drug problem.”
