A man accused of attacking his fiancee with a coffee table, breaking her cheekbone and five ribs during an argument over their forthcoming wedding, has made his first appearance at court.

Graham Mayers, who is unemployed, of Dickson Road, Blackpool, is charged with maliciously wounding his fiancee with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, asked for the case to be heard before a crown court.

Defence lawyer, Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, said her client would not indicate a plea to the charge at this stage.

Mayers, 47, was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on November 21 by Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
