A man is in critical condition in an induced coma after being attacked on a Blackpool street.

The 55-year-old was assaulted in Dickson Road at around 7.10pm on Sunday.

It is believed the 55-year-old victim had been part of a group which had become involved in a row with another male outside the Shoe Market on Talbot Road.

The male attacker followed the victim into Ma Kelly’s pub, before the pair left the pub onto Dickson Road.

It is then believed that the victim was punched which caused him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, where he is in an induced coma.

His condition is being described as critical.

Police are now keen to speak to anybody with information about the incident.

Detective Constable Paul Morris, of Blackpool Police, said: “This assault has left a man seriously ill in hospital.

“The incident took place in a busy area and we believe someone will be able to help us piece together what happened.

“If you have any information, however small it may seem to you, we would urge you to get in touch with us.”
