A former Navy sailor lost his temper and punched a bus driver – driving a double-decker full of passengers – in the face.

Dean Hoey weaved in and out of traffic, before jumping out of his car and attacking the bus driver through the vehicle’s window.

Hoey, 26, of High Bank Road, Droylsden, Manchester, pleaded guilty to assault. He was sentenced to 40 hours’ unpaid work and told to pay £75 compensation to his victim with a £150 court charge plus £60 victims surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

On September 4 at 3.45pm a woman passenger in a car on Kelso Avenue saw a VW Golf hatchback driven erratically by Hoey.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said the offence involved a single punch.

Lee Hammond, defending, said his client said he was cut up by the bus driver three times.
