A man in his 90s was stabbed in the neck and arm after being punched and knocked to the floor during an aggravated burglary in Poulton.

Police were called to reports a man had been assaulted at an address in Stanley Avenue at around 7.45pm yesterday (Tuesday, August 11).

A man his 90s had been at home when the offender, who was reportedly wearing a ski mask, entered the property demanding money.

The offender then punched the victim, knocking him to the floor, before stabbing the man in the neck and arm.

The victim - who sustained minor injuries as a result of the shocking attack - handed over cash to the assailant who then made off from the scene.

Det Sgt Steve Talbott, of Blackpool Police, said: "This was a shocking and violent attack where a pensioner was subjected to a vicious assault.

"Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured but clearly he has been left very shaken and upset.

"We would appeal to anyone with information to come forward. If you saw someone acting suspiciously in the Stanley Avenue area around the time of the offence, please contact police immediately."

The man was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment after the vicious assault.

Police are now urging anyone with information to contact police by calling 101 or emailing [email protected], quoting log 1582 of August 11.
