A MAN is in a critical condition after being found slumped in a town centre alleyway.
The 46-year-old was discovered unconscious and with serious head injuries by police in an alley behind Regent Road at 10pm on Friday.
Detectives have no idea how the man sustained his injuries.
He was described as a white, around 5ft 10ins tall with short dark hair and was wearing a black three quarter jacket, beige top, black trousers and brown shoes. He was seen with a black right eye around lunchtime last Wednesday.
Det Insp Jon Clegg said: “At this stage it is not clear how this man has come by his injuries and what we are trying to establish is where he was immediately prior to being in the alleyway on Friday night.
“We believe this man, in the days leading up to the incident on Friday evening, had been seen on a number of occasions in the local area in a confused state.
“So, not only are we looking to speak to people who may have seen him on Friday night, but also in the days beforehand.
“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have either been approached by or seen this man on Wednesday, November 21 and specifically between 5pm and 10pm on Friday night in the Regent Street area.”
