A MAN attended a hospital appointment with a knife hanging from string around his neck.

Staff at Blackpool Victoria Hospital were aware Andrew Davies carried knives.

When he arrived at reception, Davies, 37, of Braemar Walk, Bispham, was searched by police.

They found the knife under his clothing.

It was an ornamental lock knife, which was illegal.

Davies admitted possessing the weapon and he was remanded on bail for reports until April 4.

His lawyer Patrick Nelligan said: “He lives by himself and says he has the knife for protection and has used it for self harming.”
