A visitor to Blackpool subjected one of the resort’s police officers to a torrent of abuse – threatening to burn his family and bite off his nose.

Ashley Essen, a 24-year-old tiler, of Coben Street, Leeds, pleaded guilty to behaving in an abusive manner, being drunk and disorderly and possessing cocaine.

He was bailed for pre-sentence reports by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said that on October 19, at 9.20pm, police saw Essen on Market Street trying to get doormen at the Ego nightclub to fight him. He was arrested and a small amount of cocaine was found on him.

Essen subjected the officer driving him to the police station to a stream of abuse and swearing.

The officer described the journey afterwards as “the longest 10 minutes of my life.”

Martin Hillson, defending, said Essen had come to the resort on a stag do and to celebrate a birthday.

He got very drunk and after being arrested made a general rant about all in authority. He was not a racist and apologised to the officer.
