Man damages car with bat

A man who smashed a car with a cricket bat because he thought the owner had assaulted his girlfriend has been spared jail.

Benjamin Goodier smashed every window excepts the driver’s and the windscreen on the BMW parked in Curzon Road, St Annes.

Goodier, 27, of Thornton Avenue, in the town, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour.

Jane Yates, prosecuting, said on November 25 at 12.55pm witnesses saw a man in a BMW arrive at an address in Curzon Road. The driver revved his engine and repeatedly sounded his horn.

Goodier’s girlfriend went out to speak to the driver.

Goodier then appear with a cricket bat and smashed the windows on the car.

She added: “Residents said they had had to endure numerous incidents of anti-social behaviour including large scale fights around the address the driver had parked outside.”

Suzanne Mugford, defending, said the man in the BMW had often turned up without invitation and become involved in disturbances, causing the neighbours to complain.

Goodier had attacked the car with the cricket bat because he thought the man had assaulted his girlfriend and would not let her go.
