A man is alleged to have told police that his female partner was driving a Porsche Boxster sports car when it was involved in a crash.

Magistrates heard that the police claim James Christopher Walmsley, 48, of Stump Lane, Chorley, was in fact at the wheel when the collision took place on Progress Way, Blackpool, on April 13 this year.

Walmsley appeared before Blackpool magistrates charged with perverting the course of justice by telling police he was not driving and by signing a statement saying the same thing.

He is further charged with driving the Porsche without due care and attention, the court was told.

Magistrates decided the allegations must be heard before a higher court.

Walmsley was bailed and will appear at Preston Crown Court on November 7.
