A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted in Blackpool.
The 20-year-old local woman was attacked and then robbed in the town centre.
The victim had been approached by her attacker in Abingdon Street shortly before 3.30am on Sunday.
The pair, then walked on to the Promenade near to the war memorial where the man sexually assaulted her.
The attacker then grabbed her handbag before running off in the direction of the Metropole Hotel.
Detectives have been appealing for a ‘Good Samaritan’ who helped the woman moments after she was attacked to come forward.
Officers believe he may have witnessed part of the incident.
A Lancashire police spokesman, said: “A 27-year-old man from Blackpool has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He is being questioned by detectives at Blackpool Police Station.”
The victim, is currently being supported by specially trained officers.
