POLICE feared for a man’s safety after he narrowly missed walking into a bus.

They then arrested him for his own safety because they were worried about him being so drunk.

Daniel Norris, 21, of Deepdale Road, Blackpool admitted being drunk in a public place when he appeared before Blackpool Magistrates.

Prosecutor Tracy Yates told the court that police were on duty in The Strand, in central Blackpool, when they saw Norris narrowly miss walking into the back of a bus.

When they went to talk to him he was clearly very drunk and was arrested for his own safety.

Robert Castle, defending, said his client apologised for what happened on a night out with friends that saw him drink to excess.

Norris was fined £50 by magistrates.
