Man arrested after Halifax bank windows are smashed with shopping trolley in Fleetwood

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after a shopping trolley was repeatedly rammed into the windows of a bank in Fleetwood last night, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm, after a man reportedly smashed the windows of the Halifax bank in Poulton Street with a shopping trolley and a metal bar.

A Fleetwood man was soon arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken into custody, where he remains this morning.

The incident has been recorded on video and the footage has been provided to police.

The bank's windows suffered extensive fractures and a police cordon had to be put in place around its entrance.

A police spokesman said: "A man, aged 32, from Fleetwood, has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. He remains in custody."

The bank has been the victim of crime before, including an armed robbery in December last year.

Gary Roberts, 40, from Fleetwood, had threatened staff with a knife and demanded money before making off on a bike.

In February, he pleaded guilty to robbery and possessing an offensive weapon and was sentenced to 40 months in prison.
