On Sunday afternoon, Blackpool Police sought to reassure the public on Facebook, saying: "Following a report of incidents in the Moor Park area of Bispham, we can confirm that a male was arrested and later released on bail with conditions not to enter certain local areas.

"Whilst we appreciate the emotive nature of this subject, we can assure everyone that there are further enquiries ongoing with this matter and increased patrols locally."

Residents shared their concerns about the suspect being released on bail, leading Blackpool Police to issue a further statement.

The force said: "There is a clear investigation process that needs to be followed before we are in a position to charge someone with an offence.

"The decision to bail can be for a number of reasons, however this is to ensure that all the evidence is obtained and the processes followed."
