Man admits assaulting his own mother

A man has admitted assaulting his own pensioner mother.

John Hartley was drunk when he went to her home and demanded to be let in, a court heard.

But when his mother agreed he threw food at her and then put his arm across her neck causing her pain.

The 66-year-old managed to run off and call the police who arrested Hartley of Garstang Road South, Wesham.

During his interview with officers Hartley said he had been drinking heavily and stated: “I do not recall what I did but if my mother says it it must be true.

“She does not tell lies.”

Hartley admitted assault whenhe appeared before Blackpool Magistrates and his lawyer Steven Townley told the hearing: “He now knows he needs help for his drink problem.”

Magistrates adjourned sentence on Hartley until January 13 so reports can be prepared by the Probation Service.
