Man accused of raping girl '˜bought ring'

Kashif Gul, 39, of Foxhall Road, Blackpool, is accused of offences against a girl dating back more than a decade.

Gul, wearing a burgundy top, spoke via an Urdu interpreter in the witness stand as he was cross examined at his trial at Preston Crown Court.

The alleged victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is now a married mum, and claims Gul raped her 12 years ago when she was a child.

Gul denies two counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape and two counts of committing an act of gross indecency with the youngster.

His defence is that any relations between them took place when she was over 16 and were consensual.

Prosecuting, Andrew Ford asked Gul about the content of various police interviews.

He asked: “Did you get her a ring?”

He replied: “Yes. When we were in the town centre there was a gold shop. She liked it and I bought it her.”

Mr Ford asked: “Did you get her clothes?”

He said: “Yes, she liked them. We went to shop and I got them.”

CRYING

Gul was quizzed about one of the alleged rapes.

Mr Ford said: “She was crying, there were tears falling down her face and you were shouting ‘Come on, come on’ - do you remember that?”

Gul replied: “This is completely wrong, this never happened. This is just a lie and she’s making false allegations against me.”

The jury is expected to retire on Monday.
