A MAN has made his first appearance at court charged with a £43,700 benefits fraud.

Anthony Gibbs, of Lytham Road, Warton is alleged to have defrauded the Department of Work and Pensions and Fylde Council over a five-year period.

Gibbs, 61, is charged with two offences of failing to disclose to the DWP he was living with a woman who was working as he claimed Jobseekers Allowance.

He faces two allegations of fraud against the council by failing to tell them his partner was working when he claimed Council Tax benefit and Housing Benefit.

Blackpool magistrates said the case would have to be dealt with at Preston Crown Court.

Gibbs will be committed to the higher court on Friday, December 21.
