A 59-year-old man was attacked from behind in Buchanan Street, Blackpool, before having his iPhone 6 and car keys stolen as lay on the floor.

The robber then fled in the man’s black Mazda 6, which was then used to steal fuel from at least one petrol station, a spokewoman for Lancashire Police said this morning.

The attack happened at around 2am on Wednesday, before the car was pulled over by traffic officers in Mains Lane, Poulton, yesterday afternoon.

A 38-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and two counts of making off without payment.

He was still in custody this morning.
